- keðja is 6 international dance encounters
- keðja is for anyone interested in taking a closer look at how contemporary dance is organized and works in the Nordic-Baltic countries
- keðja is for people who want to question and discuss the current situation
- keðja is for people who want to co-operate across boarders, creating better circumstances for the art of contemporary dance, and thereby stimulating and developing the art of dance.
The keðja project is so far the vastest platform for dance artists as well as educators, producers, scholars and academics, artists from other sectors and dancing youth to meet and address important issues within the contemporary dance field in the Nordic/Baltic region.
keðja is the Icelandic word for chain and is highly associated with the old Nordic chain dances that are still being danced.
The name keðja symbolizes that the aim of the project is to connect, attach, encircle and move outwards as well as to strengthen the already existing chains/networks.
Over a period of 3 years, 6 encounters with different dance-related headlines will take place in 6 countries.
Artistic events, workshops, seminars and other kinds of exchange will take place, addressing the future of contemporary dance and its role in society, raising the awareness of dance, revealing potentials and facilitating development in all sectors of the art of dance - making a significant long-term impact on the artistic environment.
The vision is to create a permanent change of the position of North European contemporary dance, its mobility possibilities, the working conditions within the area and its status as an art form.
Inherent in the keðja idea is also the possibility of on a long term basis to create a network reaching further out, expanding and involving more countries.
