The First Millennium Project
Lofotr Vikingmuseet på Borg var partner i dette prosjektet som besto blant annet av en vandrerutstilling som besøkte Irland, Skottland og Norge.
This project from Ireland, Norway and Scotland interprets the mutual, yet distinctive, cultural history and development of three unique centres of power on the Atlantic rim of northern Europe during the first millennium AD. This includes the transition from Pagan to Early Christian beliefs and practices, the development of Viking culture and the interaction of the three areas. The project relates the histories of the three nations represented utilising interactive and wide reaching media.
In presenting the similarity and diversity in the ancient cultural landscapes of these now peripheral regions of Mayo, Vestvågøy and Mid-Argyll, the project demonstrates that these areas shared common systems of dealing with power, influence and transition. These systems may have some relevance to the future development of regions on the margins of Europe.
